Young Scientist Forum

10th International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) Conference, Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, May 21-25 2007.
Supported by IUBMB-Sigma-Aldrich fellowships and the Brazilian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SBBq)
The International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) and Brazilian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SBBq) are proud to announce the Young Scientist Forum, which will be held during the 10th IUBMB Conference in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, a joint event with the 36th Annual SBBq Meeting, also sponsored by the Panamerican Association for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (PABMB).
This Forum will offer extensive opportunities for young scientists from all over the world to share and exchange scientific experience, present their work at a high scientific level and interact with international senior scientists. Selected young scientists will have the opportunity to present their findings orally, and will receive substantial financial aid in order to assure their participation in the conference.
Undergraduate and graduate students, as well as post-doctoral trainees and young researchers under the age of 35 are encouraged to apply for support within the Young Scientist Forum. Young scientists of any nationality and from all fields of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology are eligible.
Successful applicants will receive:
1. Up to US$ 1000 contribution toward travel costs to Salvador
2. Complimentary accommodation during the Conference
3. Free registration
4. An invitation to present their work orally during the Conference
5. An award certificate
Application Procedures
Required Documents:
1. Young Scientist Forum application form
2. An abstract (up to 250 words) of the work to be presented
3. A brief curriculum vitae (not more than three pages)
4. A motivation letter briefly describing the reasons why the applicant would benefit from attending the meeting.
Documents, in doc format, must be by sent to the SBBq office (sbbq@iq.usp.br) by December 21, 2006.
A scientific committee will evaluate applications, and awardees will be notified in January 2007, by e-mail. Scientific merit is a prerequisite for selection. To enable young scientists from many countries to participate, some consideration will also be given to nationality, to the locality where the young scientist is currently working, and to gender.
Please do not submit an abstract to the main conference before the young scientist awardees are announced. The selected young scientists will be automatically registered in the conference. All applicants who are not selected for the young scientist forum will be encouraged to submit their work to the conference after the selection process.
13th European Conference on Developmental Psychology: Support for Young Scientists

Support for Young Scientists
We plan to offer special arrangements for about 50 young scientists from former socialist countries in Europe and from developing countries worldwide. Pending funding by a foundation, this will include stipends for travel and accommodation, a fee waiver and participation in a pre-conference workshop. Young scientists from the following countries are, in principle, eligible for reduced fees upon application:

Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Angola, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Belize, Benin, Bhutan, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, China, Colombia, Comoros, Congo-Brazzaville, Costa Rica, Côte d'Ivoire, Cuba, Dem. Rep. Congo, Djibouti, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Fiji, Gabon, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Guatemala, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jamaica, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kiribati, Kyrgyz Republic, Lao, Latvia, Lesotho, Liberia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Madagascar, Malawi, Maldives, Mali, Marshall Islands, Mauritania, Micronesia, Moldova, Mongolia, Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Romania, Russia, Samoa, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka, St. Vincent, Suriname, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Tonga, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Vietnam, Yemen.

Furthermore, our Meet-the-Scientist Event will give young researchers the opportunity to present themselves to outstanding experts in their field and discuss their research as well as their professional plans. Besides Invited Speakers and Invited Symposium Chairs, we will ask a selected group of regular authors of conference contributions to be also available for this event. As another means to foster intergenerational exchange in the field, we plan some kind of consultation talks regarding career issues between young researchers and experienced senior scientists. Last, but not least, we would like to strengthen international co-operation of young researchers by compiling special poster sessions for several areas of developmental research.

We are glad to announce that we have received limited funding for young scholars from countries as mentioned above.

Applicants are supposed to submit an abstract for the conference via the abstract submission system on this homepage. In addition, they should send an application for financial support via regular mail to:

PD Dr. Matthias Reitzle
Friedrich Schiller University of Jena
Department of Developmental Psychology
Am Steiger 3/1
D-07743 Jena
Germany
The application must include:

an application letter
the submitted abstract
We will give preference to young scientist who have already achieved a PhD and are in the early stages of their career (no more than 5 to 7 years post PhD). Depending on the country, however, really advanced graduate students (PhD candidates) may also be eligible.
